DANC Monthly Happenings | June 2025

Hello Reader,

I’m honored to introduce myself as the new Executive Director of Dementia Alliance of North Carolina. It’s a true privilege to step into this role and join such a passionate, dedicated community—one that embodies a true state of caring for individuals and families living with dementia across our state.

In these first weeks, I’m focused on listening, learning, and connecting. I’m eager to hear your stories—your joys, your challenges, and your hopes. Your voices will help guide and shape the work ahead.

As we recognize Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month this June, I’m reminded why this work matters so deeply. It’s a time to reflect, raise awareness, and stand together in support of those impacted by all types of dementia.

I’m so grateful to walk alongside you in this work. I hope you’ll stay connected, attend an event, and share your perspective as we build an even stronger network of support—right here in North Carolina, our state of caring.

With gratitude,

Elizabeth Hullender
Executive Director

Tip of the Month

While scams can affect us all at any age, older adults and individuals impacted by dementia may be at a higher risk. During our recent webinar with AARP, Susanne LaFollette-Black and Helen Savage shared how scammers target people, what to know about common scams, and how care partners can be proactive in protecting themselves and those they love. Watch the full webinar replay.
